Epithelial Membrane Antigen (EMA)

EMA, a 400kDa transmembrane glycoprotein, is widely distributed in the membrane of various epithelial cells and is widely used to label most normal epithelium and tumors from which it originates. EMA is expressed in most carcinomas, mesotheliomas, synovial sarcomas and epithelioid sarcomas, and in 95% of large cell anaplastic lymphomas. Malignant lymphoma, melanoma and soft tissue tumors are negative for EMA expression.
