CK8/18 is a low molecular weight keratin with a molecular weight of 50/43 kDa that is expressed in all monolayer epithelia, especially in various glandular epithelia: thyroid, mammary gland, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory epithelia, etc. It is expressed in adenocarcinoma and most cases of non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinomas, but not in keratinizing squamous cell carcinomas. Therefore, this antibody is usually used in combination with CK5/6 for the differential diagnosis of glandular and squamous cell carcinoma, and is mainly used for the differential diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.
