Vimentin

Vimentin, an intermediate filament protein with a molecular weight of 57KDa, is the most widely distributed intermediate filament, expressed in all mesenchymal-derived cells and co-expressed with keratin in many epithelial cells and tumors. It is expressed in lungs, salivary gland, liver cells, bile ducts, thyroid gland, kidney tubules, gonads, endometrium and adrenal cortex. In IHC it is mainly used in determination of malignant tumors of mesenchymal origin, such as myogenic tumors, soft tissue tumors and bone tumors.
