Bcl-6, a Kruppel-type zinc finger protein with a molecular weight of 96kDa, plays a role in the activation and proliferation of B cells in the germinal center. On top of that Bcl-6 is expressed in germinal center B cells derived lymphomas, in follicular lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, burkitt lymphoma and nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin's disease. Together with CD10, it can be used as a marker of follicular center B cells in the differential diagnosis of follicular lymphoma from other lymphomas. Combined with CD10 and MUM1, it can be used for the subtyping of diffuse large B cell lymphoma.
