CD38, a 45-kda type II membrane glycoprotein with a transmembrane sequence near the NH2 terminus, is present on early and activated B and T cells and is also expressed on thymocytes, pre-B cells, germinal center B cells, mitogen-activated T cells, monocytes, and plasma globulin-secreting cells. The antibody can be used in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma cells and acute myeloid leukemia.
