Alpha-1-Fetoprotein (AFP)

Alpha-1-Fetoprotein is a peptide protein associated with tumor cells. It is mainly synthesized by fetal liver, but its expression is suppressed in adult liver. Its expression has been demonstrated in abnormal tissues such as hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatoid adenocarcinoma, germ cell tumors, and especially yolk sac tumors. This antibody can be used in the differential diagnosis of neoplastic liver disease, yolk sac tumor and mixed germ cell tumor.
