S-100 Protein

S-100 is a soluble acidic protein with a molecular weight of 21-24 kda, expressed in nervous system tissues, pituitary gland, carotid body, adrenal medulla, salivary gland and a few mesenchymal tissues. It is mainly used in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of astrooligodendroglioma, ependymoma, neuroblastoma, schwannoma, malignant melanoma and liposarcoma.
