Inhibin, Alpha

Inhibin, Alpha is a glycoprotein hormone composed of alpha and beta subunits. It is expressed in the granulosa cells of the ovary, in the inner theca cells and a few in the outer theca cells, in the corpus luteum and in the luteal tumors, in breast tissues, in placental trophoblasts, in Sertoli and Leyden cells of the testis, but not in the endometrium, myometrium, and fallopian tubes. It is a marker of granulosa cell tumor and Sertoli cells ovarian tumors. When combined with CD10, it can be used for the differential diagnosis of ovarian endometrioid stromal tumors. It can also be used in the differential diagnosis of sex cord-stromal tumors and reactive mesothelium in peritoneal lavage fluid.
