PTEN gene, also known as MMAC1 or TEP1, is a tumor suppressor gene located on human chromosome 10q23. Its expression is almost ubiquitous and regulates cell cycle, apoptosis and cell adhesion. PTEN is not expressed in endometrial carcinoma, but is positive in serous carcinomas. It is mainly used to distinguish intraductal carcinoma from PIN and borderline intraductal hyperplasia.
